It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of the amazing Bernard “Bud” Johansen. Bud touched the lives of thousands of dancers and their families over the past fifty years in Olympia. He was an amazing teacher, director, mentor, and friend. Through his work at the studio, with Ballet Northwest, and at The Evergreen State College, he inspired generations. He was a monumental figure in the arts community, and was instrumental in the creation of the Washington Center. His productions brought great joy to thousands of audience members over the years. Bud’s legacy lives on through the nurturing and inclusive culture he built, and the positive values he instilled.  We all have amazing memories of Bud that we hold close to our hearts.  The long days in the dance studio full of laughs, sweat, tears, fun, discipline, hard work, friendships, dedication, and life lessons were made possible by Bud’s vision, heart, and passion for dance. Our thoughts are with Mary, all of his family, and everyone whose lives he touched.
